Why Red Wine Is More Healthful Than Grape Juice

The good news is that, yes, red wineeisch-breathable-wine-glass-1 is better for us than grape juice. Karen Weintraub, writing in the New York Times, tells us why. “Because the fermentation process involved in making wine changes the makeup of the juice, and the skin of the grape, which is loaded with healthful antioxidants, is more likely to be used in the winemaking process,” writes Weintraub, quoting Antonia Trichopoulou, a professor and director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Nutrition at the University of Athens School of Medicine in Greece. Wait, there’s more. Grape juice also has more sugar than red wine, not a good thing for our health. Weintraub also gives us helpful rundown on the health benefits of various alcoholic beverages, based on the amount of polyphenols in each beverage: red wine is better than white wine, which is better than beer.

Hi: I m a diabetic and I believe a small glass of wine with your evening meal or at bedtime is more healthy for people than all the pills in the world, my problem is which red wine would be best good for diabetics, I know you are not allowed to give medical advise, yet I m not asking for medical advise, I m trying a small glass of wine daily no matter what my doctor says, I just want to know if there is a brand that’s better than most, my concern is a wine full of sugars, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you
