Olive Oil and Nuts Keep You Sharp

Want to stay sharp in your senior years? Spanish researchers have some dietary advice: olive oil and nuts. HealthDayimgres reports that researchers in Barcelona studied the memory and thinking skills of 450 older adults, average age 67. The participants were randomly assigned to add a liter (about 33 ounces) of extra virgin olive oil per week to their Mediterranean diet, or to supplement their Mediterranean diet with 30 grams (roughly 1 ounce) per day of a mixture of walnuts, hazelnuts and almonds. Another group followed a low-fat diet. Four years later, researchers saw improvements in memory and thinking of both groups on the Mediterranean diet, compared to the group on the low-fat diet.

Adding one liter of Olive oil will add about 4,125 calories each and every week. Well over a pound of weight gain a week.
