Harvard Study Backs Running Barefoot

It may be important to consider that one source of funding behind a new study suggesting that running barefoot produces a lesser impact on leg bones and joints than running with running shoes is Vibram, the maker of the Five Fingers running shoe. And it may not matter. The Boston Globe reports that researchers at Harvard have been studying the impact of running on the bodies of runners who land first on their heels, as most American, shoe-wearing runners do, and those who land first on the balls or sides of their feet, as many Kenyan runners do.  So far, the Globe reports, the study suggests that running barefoot is less impactful, but it’s not yet clear that the lesser impact translates to fewer injuries.

  1. If one feels that he or she can’t run barefoot, for whatever reason(s), istead of buying a pricey special made shoe that lets you “feel” like your running barefoot why not buy moccasins which have no heel cushions, no arch supports, nothing to guide the placement of the foot, nothing to stop pronation or supination? All they have is a bit of leather between you and the ground.
You can make them yourself or buy them online, at various shops, etc.
It’s amazing how much Americans will pay to have something that they can have for nothing.

  2. Studies have also proven that running in Kenya or running in Boston will dramatically effect if you need or do not need shoes!!!!!
