Nerve Stimulation Does Not Relieve Lower Back Pain

Add one more thing to the list of treatments that do little to relieve lower back pain. Web MD reports that transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation, or TENS, is not effective and cannot be recommended, according to the American Academy of
Neurology (AAN).The thumbs-down judgment stems from a systematic review of the literature conducted at the Kansas University Medical Center and published in Neurology. Read a Q&A about TENS with lead researcher Richard M. Dubinsky.

That is not true when it comes to my low back pain. The TENS gives me relief every time I use it. I have 3 bulging discs in my low back and when my back gets to hurting I use my TENS unit.

  2. This is simply not true. I have used the TENS for years and it gives me great relief and my husband as well. The only persons this survey helps are the Chiropractors and most Neurologists who don’t want you to make less visits to them!

You are correct William. I have used my TENS for years and it has brought great relief not just for me but family and friends. The only people that will benefit from this survey are the Chiropractors and most of the Neurologists who do not want you to lessen your doctor visits because they will lose money.

I am a coalminer and have been using a TENS to treat
lower back and shoulder pain for the last 15 yrs. It has helped me to continue working, and guess what? My Chiropractor actually HELPED me get it. Seems he thinks that it is more productive than active-life ending surgery or living the rest of your life dependent on Loratab or Oxyconton. Let me guess, somebody got a Grant to do this study??

  5. Tens works. Period. The idiots who did this study obviously have a different cause to support.

  6. Bigfingers says this report is “bleep”. Tens works and works well almost every time I’ve used it. Family and friends have also used this with great success. Another “study” that ranks right up there with the global warming scam.

I too use a TENS unit for pain and it does help. Unfortunately it does not stop the pain. It increases the Endorphines that your body puts out which TEMPORARILY relieves the pain for a short time.

  8. I tried everything for my pain from acupuncture to drugs and the only thing that ever helped was my Tens unit. Eventually, I had an operation that worked. But this study is bogus.

  9. Interesting. It’s good that I read your post. I’m actually considering nerve stimulation for my lower back pain. It’s been hurting since I gave birth.
