Not so sure about wiser, but older does appear to mean happier, at least according to Tom. W. Smith, the director of something called the General Social Survey, which each years conducts 50,000 detailed interviews with
Americans, asking whether they are very happy, pretty happy or not too
happy. And Smith is not alone in his assertions. The Washington Post reports that several recent studies have produced a stream of
evidence that when you check on how happy people are at various ages, the elderly generally come out ahead.
