How to Eat Like Lance Armstrong

As Lance Armstrong trains for what he hopes will be his seventh successive victory in the Tour de France, Chris Carmicheal, Armstrong’s very-media-friendly trainer, talks about, well, just about everything. In this interview with FitTV, Carmichael touches on Armstrong’s training during his recovery from cancer, his training from a distance (not a problem, thanks to the Internet), his age (the average age of a Tour de France winner is 29), and, in his most useful responses, Armstrong’s diet.
"As the Tour de France approaches," says Carmichael," Lance’s nutrition program moves from
about 65 percent carbohydrate to 70 percent carbohydrate, and he’ll
consume about 13-14 percent of his calories from protein, and 16-17
percent from fat. In terms of foods, he loves pasta and also seeks
whole grains like brown rice and oats, multigrain breads, and lots of
vegetables. Protein sources include primarily eggs, fish, poultry, and
low-fat dairy products like yogurt. Fat plays important roles in
endurance athletics and health, so we don’t massively cut his fat
intake. Rather, Lance tries to stick with unsaturated fats from olive
and canola oils, seeds, nuts, and fish."

  • I have learned about that raw liver that Lance had to ingest to counter his cancer. That was very good. Very wise…

    hmmm…
    That’s strange. Canola oil is always unsaturated, which is bad. It constricts the blood vessels and invites a whole gamut of oxidised derivatives to accumulate as plaque in the arteries and veins causing oxidative damage.
    Why not try pure butter instead, as it contains butylic acid, plus the very important choline and inositol, which are all very good for the heart and arteries.
    With all the money that Lance has earned, why not ask a cellular nutritionist, preferably German or South African beacuse they have the most extensive studies and applications on this, if this is so?
    I know what I am talking about because I am an old man of 85 and I can still play competitive inter-club tennis and even run a full marathon because of my wonderfull diet designed by Doctor Robin Navarro who trained under Dr. Schuller of Germany.
    I now eat 6-8 eggs and 5-7 tall glasses of full-cream milk everyday, plus plenty of unprocessed cheese, beef, including the bone marrow, and vegetables to balance the protein overload. Pork is forbidden as it is very dirty.
    Oh, BTW, I am still very much sexually active.
