Coffee Is Major Source of Antioxidants

The good news is that coffee provides more healtfhul antioxidants than any other food in the American diet. The bad news is that coffee provides more healthful antioxidants than any other food in the American diet. News24.com reports on a study conducted at the University of Scranton that looked at the antioxidant content of more than 100 different food
items, including vegetables, fruits, nuts, spices, oils and common
beverages, and factored in typical food consumption patterns to calculate
how much antioxidant each food contributes to a person’s diet. The researchers learned that the average adult consumes 1, 299 milligrams of
antioxidants daily from an average 1.64 cups of coffee, far more than we get from the closest competitor, tea, at 294
milligrams, or bananas, 76 milligrams, or dry
beans, 72 milligrams, or corn, 48 milligrams.
Sounds swell, but even Joe Vinson, the chemistry professor who ran the study, says he rather see Americans get their antioxidants from other foods, such as fruits and vegetables, which have nutritional value as well as antioxidants. Geezer is torn between Vinson and Van Morrison, who keep encouraging us to Take It Where You Find It.
