Is coffee really a health drink? Not exactly, but the Wall Street Journal has found a Harvard professor who thinks it may be, kind of. The paper talks with Eric Rimm, a professor of epidemiology and nutrition at Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health, who goes far enough to say that coffee is healthier than soda “for almost all health reasons,†not limited to recent studies that show its ability to enhance memory up to 24 hours after the beverage is consumed. Rimm points out that coffee is high in natural polyphenols, which appear to help prevent degenerative illnesses like cancer, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. And then this: Rimm says a person could drink no other beverage than coffee, as long as the person has a healthy diet of fruits and vegetables and good fats. And then there is the issue of getting to sleep.
