Remember This: Eating Fish Can Save Your Memory

Remember to add one more thing to the list of things that omega-3 fatty acids are good for: your brain. Researchers at UCLA have discovered that brains low in omega-3 fatty acids tend to age more quickly and lose more memory than brains with higher omega-3 levels. A UCLA news release reports that the scientists put 1,575 people through MRI brain scans and tests measuring mental function, body mass and omega-3 fatty acid levels in their red blood cells. The bad news? People with levels of omega-3 fatty acids in the bottom 25 percent scored lower on tests of visual memory and executive function, including problem-solving, multi-tasking and abstract thinking. Omega-3s are plentiful in many kinds of fish, especially herring, salmon, and mackerel. Read more from UCLA.
