With a little research, you can probably find a more difficult 200-mile bike ride than the Telluride to Moab trek described here, but it’s unlikely to come with better scenery. Steve Hendrix, a Washington Post staff writer, describes a painful, gorgeous, marriage-threatening and triumphant five-day ride out of the San Juans and over the La Sal Mountains and down into Moab. Hendrix tells us that the San Juan Hut-to-Hut route is one of the best-known mountain biking
treks in the country, and one of the most popular, largely because the simple cabins — padded wooden bunks, cast-iron
stove, remote latrine — are kept fully stocked with food, water,
sleeping bags and beer. The Post helpfully includes a sidebar on how to get there and what to do when you’re not pedaling, as well as photos taken by fellow rider George Norcross. Nice package.
This looks great. I made my first trip to Moab this year and loved it! I think Telluride to Moab will be my next trip. Thanks for the info.
