Does Glucosamine Relieve Arthritis Pain?

Does glucosamine relieve arthritis pain? The short answer, according to the results of a long-awaited government study, is "not much." The Washington Post reports that preliminary results of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) study showed that in most people with osteoarthritis of
the knee,  glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate supplements worked no better for relieving pain than a
placebo. For those people whose arthritis was characterized as moderate to severe, however, the supplements appeared to provide some benefit, although that finding was described as "less than conclusive."  The Post quotes David Felson, chair of the clinical epidemiology unit at the Boston
University Medical School and author of several landmark arthritis
studies, describing the results of the $16 million Glucosamine/chondroitin
Arthritis Intervention Trial (GAIT) as  "sad news."  Look for more information to be posted here soon.

  1. Thanks, SportsGeezer. While I enjoy and appreciate your health, fitness, and lifestyle tips, this one really hit the spot. I recently started taking these suplements and I was beginning to wonder when I would start feeling better. Now I know not to expect too much relief – if any at all. Thanks again, Mike Ellliott

  4. I’m an avid golfer & road bicyclist and I owe it to all of the golfers out there who play in pain or are in pain after they play golf to tell my story.
What MonaVie Active has done for me.
On Tues Dec 5th 2006, I received my first shipment of MonaVie after enrolling as a distributor via the advice of Geoff Bodine.
Not having any expectations of MonaVie, I took a swig in the morning and at night (still do) and on Friday Dec 8th, I noticed that I didn’t have any pain after playing 18 holes of golf.
Before I started drinking MonaVie Active I’d had lower back pain since 8th grade, and while golfing I usually start to hurt around the 7th or 8th hole.
I usually dreaded bending over to tee up the golf ball on the 10th hole because it was painful in my lower back to get down there and even more so to get back up. I’m extremely please to share with everyone that I have NO pain on or off the golf course.
Before my MonaVie “transformation”, I would normally hit a good percentage of thin iron shots. Why? Because I was deathly afraid of hitting it “fat” or taking a large divot. My tendon on my right elbow would just make me want to cry. After drinking MonaVie active, there’s no pain, zip, zero, nada!

  7. is there any device that can help my father who has arthritis of the hip to set the tee and place the ball on the tee. it is very painful to bend over. seems like there should be an accessory somewhere that can help him with this problem. he needs a tee sticker into the ground, and a ball setter onto the tee. he can do everything else fine and in fact is a good golfer.
