Sally Squires, the Washington Post’s matchless writer on food and health, gave us six pieces of wisdom to help us survive a Thanksgiving feast, but they apply to the entire season of gastronomic excess. Ready? Here we go:
1. Eat breakfast. If you skip the first meal of the day, you’re more likely to overeat later.
2. Make time for activity. Even if it’s just a walk, do it.
3. Plate it. Put a small amount of healthy food on a plate, and eat only that food while cooking.
4. Indulge in a first course. Better to fill up on vegetables than the high-calorie food that follows.
5. Count to 1,000. That’s 1,000 calories.
6. Save a little room for holiday treats. But skip the trans fats.
