Sleep Is the New Sex

Really? Is sleep the new sex? That’s what psychologist Arthur J. Spielman, associate
director of the Center for Sleep Disorders Medicine & Research at
New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y, told Forbes magazine. Of course, Spielman is selling his new book,
The Insomnia Answer, and developing his version of the new sex toy: light-delivering goggles to help people reset their circadian rhythms. Like most stories in Forbes, this one has lots of numbers — 16 percent of Americans get less than six hours of sleep a night, compared to 12 percent seven years ago; there are 81 chronic sleep disorders, 100,000 auto accidents a year are attributed to drowsiness–and on and on. But the most wearying numbers that Forbes has dredged up represent the money that stands to be made in the awakening sleep industry. In fact, just reading the prices of some the latest sleep-inducing gimmicks is making Geezer very tired.
Still awake and not happy about it? Geezer has a few words for you, and this Wall Street Journal piece has a few more.
Say good-night Dick.
