There are now, according to this helpful piece in the New York Times, about 11 million runners in the United States, and Geezer is guessing that about 10 million of them are doing it wrong. What could be wrong? Balance, posture, stride, and a few other things that cause more than 60 percent of runners each year to injure one of the following: the knee, the calf and shin, the iliotibial band
(the connective tissue of the outer thigh), the Achilles tendon and the
foot. To help runners run better, there are coaches, books, websites, and now, running camps. The Times reports that the number of retreats on Running Times magazine’s Web site has swelled to more than 100, up from 38 in 2000, and most of them, –many in exotic locations- teach nutrition and general health, as well as running technique.
