Men can add 24 years to their life, and women, shortchanged as usual, can add 23, if they adopt eight healthful lifestyle habits, according to a study presented at the annual meeting of the American Society for Nutrition. The Washington Post reports on the study, which was based on data from nearly 720,000 U.S. veterans 40 and older, and found that greatest mortality risk, and one that is easily avoided, is smoking. So don’t.
And now, the habits:
- Not smoking.
- Being physically active.
- Managing stress.
- Eating a healthy diet.
- Having good sleep hygiene.
- Avoiding binge drinking.
- Not being addicted to opioids.
- Having positive social relationships.
