Hormones For Menopause: Yes Or No?

imagesHealth experts have gone back and forth in the last decade on the wisdom using hormones to fend off some of the unpleasantries of menopause. Now comes New York Times health columnist Jane Brody with the latest take: “the benefits of short-term hormone treatment to control life-disrupting menopausal symptoms outweigh the risks — as long as the treatment is started at or near menopause.”  The newest thinking, writes Brody, recommends “five years using therapy that combines estrogen and progesterone and even longer for those who take estrogen alone,” for women with no history of cancer, blood clots or heart disease. Questions? Yes, the North American Menopause Society has developed a mobile app, MenoPro, for iPhone/iPad and Android devices.
