How would you rate your physical fitness? If you’re in mid-life, somewhere near 50, your answer to that question could indicate your likelihood of dementia late in life. Science Daily
reports on research conducted at the Gerontology Research Center at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, where scientists followed more than 3,500 people for 30 years. The researchers found that people who reported poor physical fitness in midlife were four times more likely to get dementia during the next three decades compared to those with good self-rated physical fitness. For people with chronic disease, physical fitness was even more important for staving off dementia.
