Got a question about menopause? Don’t ask your ob/gyn. A survey by researchers at Johns Hopkins med school has found that fewer than one in five residents in obstetrics and gynecology gets any formal training about the event experienced by 100 percent of women. Don’t blame the residents. The same survey found that seven out of ten residents would like more instruction about women’s pre- and post-menopausal health. A Johns Hopkins news release reports that the study used a Web-based survey emailed to 258 ob/gyn residency training directors identified by the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG). The training directors were asked to forward the assessment to their residents and confirm that they had done so. Among the 510 residents who responded, only 100 reported that their program had a formal menopause learning curriculum, and 78 said they had a defined menopause clinic as part of their residency.
