How To Hide From Mosquitoes

OK, maybe you can’t hide from mosquitoes, but you can make yourself less attractive to them, mainly by avoiding a few things that mosquitoes love. Like what? The Smithsonianimages-2 reports that blood type, carbon dioxide, metabolism, skin bacteria, clothing color, and yes, beer, all play a role in making us more or less appealing to the biting insects.

Blood Type: Not that you can do anything about it, but mosquitoes land on people with Type O blood nearly twice as often as those with Type A. People with Type B blood fall somewhere in the middle.

Carbon Dioxide: Smithsonian reports that mosquitoes are drawn to carbon dioxide, which they can sense more than 150 feet away. It’s hard to limit the amount of carbon dioxide that we exhale, but larger people do exhale more of the gas than smaller people.

Metabolism: A higher metabolism, such as that of a person who has just exercised, can increase lactic acid and body temperature, two things that mosquitoes used to guide them to dinner.

Clothing Color: Curiously, mosquitoes seem to be drawn to loud colors.

Beer: Yes, just one beer can make you more attractive to mosquitoes, if not to humans.
