For most people, gray hair gets old, and hair coloring gets tiresome (and expensive). Now come researchers at the University of Greifswald, Germany and the Centre for Skin Sciences, School of Life Sciences at the University of Bradford, United Kingdom, with a chemical fix that is alleged to neutralize the cause of gray hair. Science Daily reports that the research suggests that people go gray when oxidative stress produces hydrogen peroxide in the hair follicle, which causes our hair to bleach itself from the inside out. What can we do about it? The researchers claim that the buildup of hydrogen peroxide can be remedied with a proprietary topical, UVB-activated compound called PC-KUS (a modified pseudocatalase). Wait, there’s more: the study also shows that the same treatment works for the skin condition, vitiligo. Read more in Science Daily.
