Remember menopause? How about some of it, but not most of it? Welcome to the Ladies Club. Menopause brain fog, as it is affectionately known, is not just another complaint, according to researchers at the University of Rochester. It’s real. A U of Rochester news release reports that researchers gave 75 women, from age 40 to 60, several cognitive tests that looked at their abilities to learn and retain new information, to mentally manipulate new information, and to sustain their attention over time. When the women were asked about menopause symptoms related to depression, anxiety, hot flashes, and sleep difficulties, and their blood levels of the hormones estradiol and follicle-stimulating hormone were measured, researchers linked the women’s complaints were to some types of memory deficits, but not with others. They found that women who had memory complaints were much more likely to do poorly in tests designed to measure what is called “working memory†– the ability to take in new information and manipulate it in their heads. They also found that the women’s reports of memory difficulties were associated with a lessened ability to keep and focus attention on a challenging task. That might include doing the taxes (soon), maintaining sharp attention on the road during a long drive, completing a difficult report at work despite boredom, or getting through a particularly challenging book. Drink Soil Milk…it works wonders after 40…unless you want to take a replacement like vit Bs. Make sure you take a multi…vit and minerals every day. Flax seed is also wonderful…study health more and research what works on your body…be careful not to take things that can cause cancer…like some birth controls.
I have also noticed a decline in the memory of men after age 40 yrs. that I know. Why don’t doctors ever post the reason for men forgetting so much. I have met men that forget more than women. Just a note it happens to men too at the same age…maybe because most doctors are men doing the studies. Maybe people shouldn’t make men look like they have to be perfect…then maybe they wouldn’t have so many problems after age 40…that nobody know’s about until they are diagnosed with a life threating desease (high C/heartproblems, cancer, etc…During a time when jobs are hard to find…don’t be making women look worse than men…that’s wrong.
