Two Things Keep Weight Off Boomer Women: Fruits And Vegetables

The good news revealed in a study by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh is that, yes, it is possible for boomer women to keep from gaining weight. Even better news is the revelation that women over 50 can keep the weight off and still eat out in restaurants two or three times a week. The bad news? It’s not so bad. As a story on National Public Radio reports, the women who were successful at weight loss seemed able to bring their healthier eating habits to the restaurant table. It also reveals what those habits were: eating less meat and cheese, and fewer desserts and sugar-sweetened beverages. But more importantly, the researchers found, those women who didn’t gain weight were those who ate daily servings of fruits and vegetables. NPR reports that the U of Pittsburgh study supports evidence found in another study published last year. Read the University of Pittsburgh study here. Read more from NPR.
