Warnings Of Memory Loss Seen In Walking, Sleeping, Eating

Just remember this: walk fast, sleep well, and don’t overeat. If you do those three things, there’s a good chance you’ll continue to remember those three things, and more. The Boston Globe reports on evidence that has come to light in three recent studies of early markers of memory loss. One study, conducted at the Boston Medical Center, found that people with a slower walking speed in middle age were one-and-a-half times more likely to develop dementia than people with faster walking speeds. Another study, by researchers at Washington University, found that people who woke up more than five times per hour were more likely to have amyloid plaque build-up, a hallmark marker of Alzheimer’s disease, compared to people who woke less often. Finally, a study conducted at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona found that, when researchers divided 1,233 people into three groups based on their caloric intake, the chances of having mild cognitive impairment more than doubled for those in the highest calorie-consuming group compared to those in the lowest calorie-consuming group.
