Multivitamins Don’t Prevent Heart Disease

The good news is that multivitamins are good for something: One recent study concluded that they cut the risk of cancer by eight percent. The bad news is they do nothing to stave off heart disease. A Brigham and Women’s Hospital news release reports that researchers at the Harvard-affiliated hospital enrolled nearly 15,000 men over the age of 50 in the study, and randomly assigned them to take either a multivitamin or a placebo each day. After ten years, the researchers found, the group that took the placebo showed no significant impact on risk of heart attack, stroke, or cardiovascular mortality.
