The good news for readers of both genders is this: humans continue to evolve. Yes, we’re all getting better. That’s the conclusion of researchers at the University of Sheffield, who studied church records of about 6,000 Finnish people born between 1760-1849, with a particular eye on how demographic, cultural and technological changes of the agricultural revolution affect natural and sexual selection. The good news for roughly half of all readers is this: men are evolving faster than women. Seriously. A University of Sheffield news release quotes principal investigator Dr Alexandre Courtiol, explaining (somewhat) “Characteristics increasing the mating success of men are likely to evolve faster than those increasing the mating success of women. This is because mating with more partners was shown to increase reproductive success more in men than in women.” Read more here.
