Happiness Peaks At Retirement, And Now The Bad News…

The good news is: happiness peaks, for most people, when they retire, according to researchers at Queensland University of Technology and the University of Queensland. The bad news is: after retirement, it drops increasingly fast as death approaches.  A University of Queensland news release reports that the happy conclusion is drawn from surveys of 60,000 people in Australia, Britain and Germany, which revealed that people were happiest as they entered retirement age (55-75), and most miserable close to death (80-90). Why is that? The researchers believe that people over 55 no longer have unrealistic expectations of what their life will be like and simply enjoy their reasonable health and wealth, leading to a marked surge in happiness. As their health starts to deteriorate after 75, their happiness plunges. And what about happiness after death? More research is needed. Read more from the University of Queensland.
