Got Soy Milk? It’s Good For Your Blood Pressure

Soy, rhymes with “oy,” and tastes only slightly better, is good for you, and it appears to be especially good for your blood pressure, at least according to new research conducted at Columbia University.  The new  study, which analyzed dietary data on 589 people, found that those consuming the highest level of soy protein averaged 5.52 mmHg lower systolic blood pressure than people getting the least. This difference appeared only when comparing the top and bottom one-fourths of the participants, but the amount of soy isoflavones (believed to be responsible for the BP benefit) needed to reach that top group was relatively low: 2.5 mg or more per day.  An 8-ounce glass of soy milk contains about 22 mg of isoflavones and 100 g of roasted soybeans have 130 mg. 1. I heard that soy milk has female hormones in it. So I would not touch that stuff.
