Each year, Americans spend about $30 billion on weight loss programs, products, and pills. As Joan Salge-Blake points out in her blog, Nutrition and You!, there’s good evidence –65 percent of Americans are overweight–that the money is not well spent. Salge-Blake reminds us that the Federal Trade Commission offers some tips on how to spot the BS in advertisements for weight loss products and programs. “Lose 30 pounds in 30 days!â€Â
“Lose weight by limiting carbs!”
“Lose weight without diet or exercise!”
“Lose weight no matter how much you eat of your favorite foods!â€Â
“Lose weight permanently! Never diet again!â€Â
