Many readers have seen reports of research at Baylor College of Medicine showing that sex is safe for most people with heart disease. Excellent, but how do you know if you’re one of the “most people”? The researchers suggest that you walk up two flights of stairs. If you’re not gasping for breath or having chest pains, go for it. What most news reports omit is the finding, reported in the Scientific American, that when researchers looked at those people who did have a heart attack during sex, they found that three quarters of them were sleeping with someone other than their spouseâ€â€most with a younger partner, at a location other than home, or were trying to perform “after excessive food and alcohol consumption.†Caveat emptor.
This is not true. Heart attack can develop from many factors including anxiety to satisfy sex partner.
