Berry Good News For Brains: Berries Prevent Inflammation

Many people know that blueberries are good for your memory, and people who eat enough blueberries can usually remember that. Now comes research from the Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University, suggesting there are many ways that berries are good for the brain, and we only have scientific explanations for a few of them.  Yes, they say, more research is needed. In the mean time, the scientists, who reviewed more than 100 scientific articles on the ways that eating berries influences the brain, report that berry fruits contain high levels of antioxidants, compounds that protect cells from damage by harmful free radicals. They also found that berry fruits change the way neurons in the brain communicate, and that these changes can prevent inflammation in the brain that contribute to neuronal damage and improve both motor control and cognition.
