Would You Take A Pill To Prevent Gray Hair?

We have a drug to prevent male-pattern baldness –finasteride–originally used to treat enlarge prostates, and we have cosmetic treatments for frown lines and eyelashes that are insufficiently luxurious. Now, from ABC, comes news that L’Oreal is developing a pill to prevent the graying of hair. Drugs like that belong to the recently named category of “lifestyle drugs,” but they could also be designated “deny-your-age” drugs. One thing we know about them is that there will be more, many more, and some of them will have downsides. US News & World Report reminds us that finasteride may contribute to irreversible sexual dysfunction or raise the risk of developing an aggressive form of prostate cancer, Latisse, the eyelash thickener, may darken the skin on the eyelid or permanently change the color of the iris, and Botox may deaden real emotions while robbing the face of its ability to show them. All of which may or may not be harder to live with than looking our age, depending on the health of our vanity. What do you think? Would you take a pill to prevent the graying of your hair?
