Vibrators Finally Get Some Buzz

Following, unsurprisingly, in the wake of erectile dysfunction remedies like Viagra, vibrators have made their way into the popular media, and conversation. The New York Times reports on the emergence of the pleasing machines, citing their displays at Duane Reade, Walgreens and other mainstream drugstores. The paper mentions a 2008 study done by the Center for Sexual Health Promotion at Indiana University that found that over half of American women had used vibrators, and of that group, nearly 80 percent had shared them with their partners. It also quotes James Daniels, vice president for marketing at Trojan, which sells vibrators as well as condoms, saying: “The idea really came from consumers. They kept telling us vibrators, vibrators. And we just laughed. And then we realized they were serious.” Yes, James. They were.
