With something that everyone wants, there has to be a catch, right? Right. Happiness, it turns out, can best be found by not looking for it. The Boston Globe reports on research conducted by University of Denver psychologist Iris Mauss, which reveals that people who value happiness the most have less satisfaction with life, and are more likely to be depressed. Mauss also found that teaching people to adopt happiness as a value made them more lonely. What to do? Mauss believes that “people may be happiest when they’re not monitoring their own happiness.” Are you happy now?
The key to happiness is contentment. Whether it is who your are, where your at, or what you have. Always wanting to be someone else, somewhere else, or having more more more will keep you from ever being happy. As Socrates wrote I think, something like, true happiness is being content. Always wanting is artificial poverty.
Sounds about right to me!
There is a difference between happiness and Joy. Joy is being content with your life as it is, while trying to accomplish your life’s purpose. Happiness is momentary pleasure, winning this game or accomplishing a milemark, understanding that things may wipe out the happy time, but Joy is given by God it is HIs grace. Find God! Find Joy!
There is a difference between the natural and Spiritual. The word meanings are only slightly so. The Joy you speak of is Spiritual Harold. And I would say it only slightly different. Joy is being Spiritually content regardless of what your natural life is. Nothing about the natural Life can bring that Joy. I enjoyed your comment, you’ve made me think. 🙂
Just love who you are and you wll be happy.
