A survey by researchers at Williams College reveals another thing men are bad at: reading a woman’s level of interest in them. HealthDay reports that scientists asked 96 male and 103 female students to rate their own attractiveness. The students were also assessed for their desire for a short-term sexual encounter. The students were then put through a “speed-meeting” exercise, in which they each spent three minutes talking to five members of the opposite sex, after which they rated the people they met on several things, including physical attractiveness and their perceived sexual interest. Guess what the researchers found? Men who thought they were “hot” also thought, incorrectly, that women were hot for them. In fact, the men who women did find attractive did not think they were “hot.” HealthDay reports that the researchers also found that the more attractive a woman was to a man, the more likely he was to overestimate her interest, and that, in general, women tended to underestimate men’s desire.
