Ski Helmets: Researchers Say Wear Them and Shut Up

From Great Britain comes this news: Ski helmets reduce head injuries. The BBC reports that researchers from the Department of Sports Science at the University of Innsbruck found that adults and children, of all ages, wearing a helmet while skiing were significantly less likely than those without a helmet to have a head injury. Helmets were found to reduce head injuries by 35 percent in adults and 59 percent in children under 13. The Innsbruck study, published in the British Medical Journal, showed that 74 percent of head injuries occurred when skiers hit their head on the snow, 10 percent when they collided with other skiers and 13 percent when they collided with fixed objects. The Innsbruck bottom line: Researchers say all skiers should wear helmets.
