Men: (Numerous) Kids Are Good For Your Heart

Just a few days ago, we learned that having kids can turn down the testosterone, and consequently turn up the nurturing instinct that is generally good for living things. Now comes a report that suggests, contrary to all practical experience, that having kids is good for men’s heart health. Are they kidding? No, they are not. Web MD reports that when researchers at Stanford University followed more than 135,000 men aged 50 to 71 for a decade to learn impact of fatherhood on health, they found that childless men and men with just one child were more likely to die from cardiovascular causes than men who fathered more than one child. The Stanford scientists found that men with no children had a 17 percent increase in risk for death from heart-related causes than men with children, and men with one child had a 13 percent increased risk.

  1. That does my heart good. I’ve got three kids and the mental, emotional, spiritual and financial commitment that it takes to rear them takes a lot of heart! They’re a joy indeed!
