FDA Says Too Much Acetaminophen in Pain Meds

The problem is liver failure. Experts at the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research believe that half of all cases of liver failure, or about 800 per year, are caused by acetaminophen overdose. And acetaminophen overdose, in turn, is often caused taking relatively powerful painkillers such as Tylenol 3, Percocet and Vicodin,meds that are packed with as much as 750 milligrams of acetaminophen. Consequently, the Los Angeles Times reports, the FDA has asked manufacturers to limit the amount of acetaminophen in those painkillers to a maximum of 325 milligrams per dose.The agency recommends that people consume no more than 4,000 mg. of the drug per day.

    I once requested an rx for just the “narcotic” part, saying “I can take Ibuprofen with it as needed, but I do not want all that Acetaminophen”.
    I also told my doc that I would take N-AC to protect my liver.
    It was clear that he considered me to be insane for making the above 2 comments.
