It's true. Exercise can even make your brain look better. HealthDay reports that researchers in the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine's (IEEM) Cerebrovascular Lab at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas examined the white matter in the brains of ten masters athletes, average age 73, and ten sedentary people with the same level of education. You guessed it. The white matter of the athletes was in much better shape. Why do we care? Because, HealthDay reports, white matter plays the critical role of transmitting messages between different regions of gray matter — areas where functions such as seeing, hearing, speaking, memory and emotions take place. So, without sufficient white matter, gray matter can't do its job, as is the case for many people with various forms of dementia. Make note to remember.
Oh yeah, I agree 110% I inline skate almost every day and feel it’s a great way to keep myself and my mind in shape. I feel almost euphoric after a good skate session and I know that must be good for me. I have always been an avid exercise enthusiast and knowing this just help re-instill the reasoning I do this all the time.
When you try to prove something with statistics you run the risk of getting cause and effect reversed. If a person has good health because of his genes, then he is more likely to be athletic and get more exercise. This study was too small and was conducted by a group that had a stake in the results.
