You can't make this stuff up. OK, you could make this stuff up, but we didn't. MSNBC reports on research at the Univerisity of Barcelona that has convinced scientists that flavonoids found in wine can slow a chemical reaction that kills skin cells and causes sun damage. Normally, when UV rays hit your skin, they activate "reactive oxygen species," which oxidize lipids and DNA, switching on enzymes that kill skin cells. Flavonoids are believed to stem the formation of the reactive oxygen species in skin cells that were exposed to UVA and UVB rays. The research is published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry.
Wait, there's more: Wine staves off dementia.
