Derek Jeter’s Staying-Power Secrets

No, 37 is not old, unless you happen to have just signed a $51 million agreement to play for the Yankees for three more years–with an option for a fourth year. In any case, Jeter’s age is not the number his fans are focusing on. That number 3,000, as in the 3,000 career hits the former shortstop and current second basement is closing in on. How does he do it? One hour before each game, Jeter tells Men’s Fitness, he eats and peanut butter and jelly sandwich. And when he needs some motivation in the gym, Jeter says, he listens to John Legend and Alicia Keys.

  1. Love the Yanks. Derek is surviving. He must be injured. Everytime I see him he’s hitting an infield out. He is still a terrific defensive player. He’s a warrior and deserves our admiration and respect for his contribution to the Yankees and the game for many, many years, but I think all players need to perform consistently on every level. The Yanks need a better hitter in that position. Don’t stay on too long Derek.
