Researchers at the University of Wisconsin would like you to know that if you’re thinking of suffering from cardiac arrest, you should think about doing it at the gym. Why? Because their research shows that 50 percent of cardiac arrest victims survived if the attack occurred in a public place where some sort of exercise was happening, while only 36 percent of those whose event happened in other indoor public places survived. HealthDay reports that the scientists look at indoor public places where cardiac arrests occurred in the Seattle area between 1996 and 2008. The researchers found that in the exercise facilities, 90 percent of the victims were men, 77 percent got CPR, 16 percent were treated with an automatic defibrillator machine and 50 percent survived. At the other in indoor public places, 75 percent of victims were men, 55 percent got CPR, 7 percent were treated with an automatic defibrillator machine and 36 percent survived. Of those who suffered cardiac arrest at an exercise facility, 16 percent were playing basketball, 9 percent were dancing, 9 percent “working out,” 8 percent were on a treadmill and 8 percent each were playing tennis, bowling, swimming or weight lifting.
THE ONLY THING IS– WITH THE SWIMMING ONE– HOPEFULLY SOMEONE IS THERE TO FETCH YOU OUT OF THE POOL–AS WITH CARDIAC ARREST, IT USUALLY IS LIGHTS OUT FOR THE VICTIM THAT WENT DOWN!
The best place to suffer a heart attack is in the hospital or at a seminar for cardiac surgeons… 😉
