Wine May Stave Off Cognitive Decline

No. Drinking wine in moderate amounts will not make you smarter, but it may help you hang onto the smarts you came with a little longer. Web MD reports that when researchers in Norway studied the drinking habits of 5,033 men and women over a
seven-year period, they found that wine drinkers scored better than teetotalers
on a range of tests of cognitive function, or thinking skills. Not drinking alcohol was linked in women, but not in men, with
significantly lower scores on tests of reasoning and thinking ability. The researchers hypothesize that the cognitive benefits of drinking wine could stem from the number of
polyphenols (antioxidants) and other micro elements that may help reduce
the risk of cognitive decline with aging.

  1. Hey, the chrome heads finally are recognized for their “Red wine” habits. I’m 81 yrs. and I still like to scan some of my old,”OLD” calculus books for something I might have failed to understand 60 yeas back. Hang in there with your “Red Wine” sipping daily.

  2. Damn–I as forced to throw all that away ’cause someone convinced me I was the only one in the world who wanted to look at old calculus textbooks. I still haven’t figure out what Begle meant when he talked about {[f(x)-f(a)]/(x-a)}

  3. I intended to respond earlier but I forgot and had to sober up first….
All joking aside, there might be better ways to get antioxidants, etc. such as eating the proper fresh fruits and vegetables, than consuming alcohol even in moderation remembering that few ever start out to deliberately become addicted to alcohol yet many seem to end up there.
If you consume enough of anything that dulls your sense perception you will not be aware of whether the is helping or harming you.

  4. William is an asshole.Wine is fine. I have been drinking in moderation for 50 years and have never even been tipsey. I will agree that if you cannot control yourself you should leave it alone

  5. It’s like this: A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first.
This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.
In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first.
In this way, regular consumption of alcohol eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine.
That’s why you always feel smarter after a few alcohol beverages.

  6. Well at least someone ealse can see William far what he is besides me!Thinks Rich and have A GREAT DAY!! Bill C. Southeast Corner of Texas.

  7. Interesting that when you point to the know effects of systematic alcohol consupmtion over long periods of time, those who have done the same for over fifty years yet have never once in their life been “tipsy” suddenly become enraged and insulting.
Old drunks are undoubtedly the worst and the least likely to admit that they do, in fact and in deed, have a drinking problem.
Never become drunk , even slightly even once in your life? A liar as well as a drunk…
Do you realize how foolish you sound?
