Vitamin B is for Bust: Does Nothing to Stave Off Heart Attack

The good news is that vitamin B is not bad for you. The bad news is that it's also not as good for you as many experts had hoped. Reuters reports that some studies had shown that blood levels of
the amino acid homocysteine were high in people with heart disease, a finding that
led some researchers to speculate that using B vitamins to lower
homocysteine levels might in turn protect the heart and decrease the
risk of strokes. But now comes a study, published in the Journal of the American
Medical Association and funded by Merck, that
assigned more than 12,000 heart attack survivors
to take either placebo pills or vitamin B12 (1 mg daily) and folic acid
(2 mg)m, and followed the patients for almost seven years. Reuters reports that the researchers found that a
bout a quarter of the patients on placebo pills
suffered a heart attack or a stroke over the follow-up period. In the
vitamin group, slightly more people did so, despite their considerably
lower homocysteine levels.

  1. Hear we go again!( funded by Merck) They are just talking about b12 not all( b vitamins )!They use the phrase ( Vitamin B is of Bust )now tell me if that’s not misleading? And they are talking about 1200 people who have already had a heart attack!Their heart is already week are damaged! Now lets give 1200 people with no heart trouble b12 and 1200 with no heart problems a placebo, for a period of time and then check both groups! NOW THATS A TEST! The test they did was STUPID!!Really Stupid!!( they took sick people!!! ) and said IT DIDN’T WORK! American Medical Association, makes you wonder doesn’t it???

  2. I could not have said it better myself, Bill C.! I would have, at least tested with a B-Complex formula and, of course, studied 1200 fundamentally healthy people for 10 years (maybe, even people who have heart disease in their families) and, then, see what the result would be. Responsible vitamin and mineral supplementation, along with a great diet and exercise is just a plain common sense regimen for good health. These studies funded by drug companies have to be taken with a huge grain of salt – or, maybe, not taken at all.
