The Facts Behind Six Healthful-Sounding Food Label Claims

Tara Parker-Pope, writing in the Well column of the New York Times, tells us the real meaning, or lack of meaning of six common healthful-sounding food claims. And the winners are:

Lightly-sweetened
A good source of fiber
Strengthens your immune system
Made with real fruit
Made with whole grains
All natural

  1. The Media, Newspaper,TV,etc.wont take responsibility to refuse Food and many other industries wrongly influncing Ads for obvious money reasons. Apparently its legal to hire marketing people to come up with misleading/tricky ads and labeling. Grocery Stores dont have a problem putting them on the shelves either.
    Restaurants that can afford it hire Madison Ave types to make their food look astonishingly good in print and TV even though they dont resemble what you get when its served at your table. We ignored the Ralph Nader types who tried to tell us what is really going on with Businesses. We deserve all this and more for not doing anything about it.

    While I agree with most of what you said, being ignorant to the facts does not give just cause to blatantly miss lead. I don’t think anyone “deserves it”. With that being said, if you look who owns some of the worlds leading food companies here in the USA, you would find that it would be a Tobacco Conglomerate.
    The government again helping we the people.
