Rheumatoid Arthritis Less Painful For Those In Good Marriages

Want to ease the pain of rheumatoid arthritis? Try working on your marriage. Businessweek reports on research conducted at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine that looked at the levels of pain suffered by 255 adults with rheumatoid arthritis, and attempted to correlate it with marital happiness. The average age of the subjects was 55. The researchers found that "better marital quality is related to lower affective pain and lower psychological disability." Wait, here's an even better idea: take your husband or wife out for a drink. Other research has shown that non-drinkers are four times more likely to develop RA than people who drank alcohol on more than ten days a month.
