Protein-Enhanced Sports Drinks Enhance Little Else

What would happen if we added protein to a typical sports drink? Gretchen Reynolds, writing in the New York Times Well blog, has the answer: not much. Reynolds reports on a study by researchers at the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences at the University of Birmingham, that found no benefit of a protein sports drink for cyclists who did two hours of steady-state cycling and then did a one-hour time trial. Another study, conducted at the University of Texas, did show some improvement for some, but not all, cyclists who drank a protein-enhanced sports drink before being were put through a three hour exercise. So what's the answer? Geezer says stick with chocolate milk.
