Probiotic Cheese Bolsters Immune System

Probiotics sound like they should be the opposite of antibiotics, but they're not, at least not exactly. Probiotics are live microorganisms that are helpful to their host organism, which in this case, happens to us. They are commonly associated with foods like yogurts and fresh milk, but they are also found in cheese, particularly cheese that is marketed, unsurprisingly, as probiotic cheese. Now comes a report from the University of Turku in Finland indicating that probiotic cheese is also an excellent source of bacteria that can boost our immune system.Science Daily reports that Finish researchers asked volunteers between 72 and 103 to eat one slice of either placebo or probiotic
Gouda cheese
with their breakfast for four weeks. Blood tests revealed a clear enhancement of natural and acquired
immunity.
