One Woman’s Story: Four Steps From Butterball to Marathoner

Carrie Luger Slayback’s short autobiographical piece in the L.A. Times is as inspirational as they come. Headed for size 12 at 36, she wears size 2 at age 66 Here’s how she did it: running. Here, from the L.A. Times are four tips to following her footsteps, so to speak.
1. Wake early enough for a half-hour workout on the street or treadmill, five to six days a week.
2. Ease into it gradually, but never give up.
3. Find a partner, if that helps you.
4. If you miss one day, get back. If you experience a muscle ache, walk
or ride a bike — but don’t stop moving for that half-hour before
breakfast.

Luger Slayback, who recently placed 10th in the age 65-to-69 group at the New York City
Marathon, writes about fitness and health in blog at lazyracer.blogspot.
