Forget the sunscreen. The theory behind the latest surprising health advice is that short periods of unprotected sun are the best way to boost our levels of vitamin D, which is believed to be in short supply in most people. Vitamin D, which is produced by our bodies when we are exposed to the sun, has been shown to strengthen bones and may lower the risk of bowel cancer. The BBC reports that seven organizations, including Cancer Research UK and the National Osteoporosis Society, support the new recommendations, which fly in the face of traditional warnings about exposure to sun increasing the risk of skin cancer.
Long before skin cancer was ever known or thought about, or perhaps even existed, people were always in the sun.
Those that lived in always sunny climates just covered up more. It’s just crazy how we are sometimes led like herded cattle into thinking and doing things that are so completely in the opposite direction of what was always known. “Stay out of the sun”, probably one of the most unhealthy things a person can do, but some are led to believe it. “Slather on some chemical laced sunscreen”, into the largest organ of your body, on a repeated basis? Another billion dollar industry created out of the fear of something, but is likely to create either the same, or some new cellular anomaly yet undiscovered. Our bodies are not meant to be soaked in chemicals. They are meant to be in the sun. Common sense applies. You burn that skin enough by any means and a bad thing could happen. Hopefully this article will get people out in the sun again, and away from the fear that was created, which can lead to problems worse than the original one. And “forget the sunscreen” in my opinion, is the best statement here.
It has been reported that vitamin D reduces the risk of cancer by 77 percent! And if you can’t get out in the sun, you can buy it at wal-mart for a little of nothing. Do a little reading on the net,you can find a lot of good stuff that’s really good for you’re health.Vitamin D is also good for a lot of other things to,like its affect on colds and the flu. And as always, have a Blessed Day!!
Good info Bill. I wonder though, unless I have it wrong, and would like to know, if the store bought D, going thru the digestive system, would do the same good for the body as the D the body naturally produces from the sun, which would not go thru the digestive system. I have also read many articles along the same lines about how most of the vitamins available are not as effective, or in forms that the body can easily break down and use, and are mostly then discharged, as opposed to the vitamins our system would extract from good food as designed. any thoughts?
Yes! Glad you asked.Their are a lot of different things that you can take to make vitamins moor affective, are less affective.Like iron,if you’re taking a vitamin with iron in it you’re wasting you’re money! Iron wont let you’re body absorb the vitamins you’re taking. If you’re taking turmeric,it should be taken with black pepper to be better absorbed. The list goes on and on,as for as getting vitamins from you’re food, yes you can but to get the right amount every day! I don’t think so!I don’t think you can eat that much! Good Luck! And may God Bless.
Not anything new about this news. My endocrinologist told me 5 years ago that 15 minutes in the sun between 9 am to 3 pm with bare arms or feet will produce enough D for the Day. He agrees that one reason people are so D deficient is the sunscreen industry. The article makes it sound like sunshine is all that we need and might lead some to believe that if they sit by the window for 15 minutes that will do it. Nope, the ultraviolet rays from the sun need direct contact with the top of your forearms for that is where D is made in interaction with chemicals in your skin and then absorbed. D is really more of a hormone that a vitamin. Some people are depressed because of D deficiency.
