Napping Makes Us Smarter

Memo to Boss: If sleeping is what it takes to improve performance, I'm willing to make the sacrifice.

Doubtful bosses should send questions to the psychology department of the University of California at Berkeley. That's where researchers gave 39 young adults a
difficult  task: learning 100 face-name pairs
and then matching them up. The young learners were tested at noon. Then, at 2 p.m., one group of learners was given the chance for a 90-minute siesta; while a second group was asked to stay awake. Web MD reports that a second test, given at 6 p.m. found that those in the group that
didn't nap had a 10 percent reduction in their learning capacity while those who  napped improved their ability to learn by 10 percent.
